Desiccant Dehumidifier 101: What are Zeolites?

If you have been paying attention to the dehumidifiers, you will often see the word zeolite, but what does zeolite mean? In fact, desiccant dehumidifiers all use zeolite as a desiccant material with desiccant wheel design to remove excess moisture in the air.

1. What is a desiccant?

First, through absorption, one substance is converted into another. 2. So, what are zeolites?

What is zeolite? Zeolite comes from naturally occurring volcanic rocks and is composed of hydrated aluminosilicates of alkaline earth metals. Generally speaking, naturally occurring zeolite is rarely pure, because zeolite will definitely be mixed together by other minerals, metals, quartz or other zeolites to varying degrees, but pure zeolite is a material that is particularly capable of adsorbing water. 

3. Are Zeolites safe?

Due to some characteristics of zeolite, zeolite is destined to be a very stable solid, which can resist various environmental conditions that challenge many other materials. First, it generally does not burn, and its melting point exceeds 1000°C. It can withstand high temperatures and high pressures. Second, it is insoluble in water or other inorganic solvents, will not be oxidized in the air, will not harm the environment, and will not cause health problems due to inhalation. Third, zeolite is a natural mineral and will not react with other substances.

4. How do zeolites work in the dehumidifier? 

Generally speaking, zeolite is used in the desiccant wheel of our industrial dehumidifiers. When the zeolite is placed in the air, it will absorb the surrounding moisture. After reaching a certain saturation point, it will stop absorbing. At this time, the dehumidifier near me will drain the moisture in the zeolite into the water tank of the dehumidifier through the hot air, and wait for the zeolite to enter the water. After the water is exhausted, the zeolite continues to absorb the moisture in the surrounding air and reuse it repeatedly.
